Summer Donation 2017

23 June 2017 No Comment

Muraho! As the summer heats up, we at Pens To People are hard at work collecting and distributing your donated pens to those who need them most. I’m incredibly excited to share the pictures below, which depict the young beneficiaries of your kindness holding their newfound tools for educational success and beyond. From top to bottom, Pens To People was able to support schoolchildren in Kimisange, Bwerankori, and Bugesera, which are remote villages located primarily south and west of Kigali’s central district.

Of course, we couldn’t hand deliver those pens without a ton of help along the way, and this year we found it through a familiar face — Darius Mbonigaba! For those of you who don’t know, Darius and I met as teenagers in Nyamata when I was trekking Rwanda and we’ve kept in constant contact ever since through the magic of social media. Check out the photo I snapped of him in 2008 below (sitting, yellow pants). Good looking guy, right? Big thanks also go to Go Kigali Tours, who were generous enough to bring your donated pens from Connecticut all the way to Kigali for Darius to distribute.

As always, if you or someone you know recognizes a local need for educational supplies, please refer them to Pens To People for guidance and support. Enjoy the rest of your summer and stay tuned!
