Summer Donation 2017

Muraho! As the summer heats up, we at Pens To People are hard at work collecting and distributing your donated pens to those who need them most. I’m incredibly excited to share the pictures below, which depict the young beneficiaries of your kindness holding their newfound tools for educational success and beyond. From top to bottom, Pens To People was able to support schoolchildren in Kimisange, Bwerankori, and Bugesera, which are remote villages located primarily south and west of Kigali’s central district.
Of course, we couldn’t hand deliver those pens without …

Pictured are the beneficiaries of your donated pens! The Piedmont Community Church had a very successful trip overseeing the development of their school in the small village of Luhomero, Malawi, and the donated pens they hand delivered to the school admins and students will ensure that everyone in the community is prepared for the new school year. I’m incredibly excited to show you these pictures from our Piedmont Church partner Matt Fisher (pictured in a blue plaid shirt), who tells me that the primary school we donated the pens to …

Summer Donation 2016

Wow, what a summer we’ve had so far. Every year I’m astounded by the generosity of complete strangers who find this website and have the heart to either donate pens or bring them on their African journeys, but this year may take the cake! I recently received an inspiring letter from 7th-grader Ryan DeWitt of Fairfield, CT expressing his gratitude for our mission alongside 275 pens he helped collect at his middle school (see below). So first and foremost, a gigantic thank you to Ryan and his peers at Fairfield …

Fall Donation 2015

Yet another jam-packed pen donation season here at Pens To People! As a follow-up to our last update, the Putney Tanzania group were overjoyed to receive the 500 pens we contributed to their cause, and they were successful in distributing those pens throughout the rural villages they visited outside the northern town of Arusha. Big thanks to Putney for coordinating such a memorable experience for everyone involved!
As the Putney group expanded educational opportunities in Tanzania, members of the charitable organization CHABHA (see full bio on Partners page) coordinated the delivery …

Pen Drives and Donations

What a summer so far! We here at Pens To People have been busy supporting pen drives, collecting a record amount of pens, and donating them to the groups we trust most. First, we’d like to thank Sarah Allen for organizing her high school’s pen drive. Sarah helped bring the 1,026 pens we donated to Rwanda last summer with Putney and saw firsthand how excited the children there were to receive pens, so she wanted to do more for them. Awesome work Sarah! In addition, we’d like to thank Mendham …

Pictured are your donated pens in action! The Putney Student Travel group had an inspiring month long journey across the most impoverished areas of Rwanda and came back with a new-found understanding of the educational supplies crisis there. As you can see, the schoolchildren are delighted to receive your donations! Thank you so much for your continued support as we look forward to our next annual donation in summer 2015.

Summer Donation 2014

Yet another year with fantastic results and we at Pens To People couldn’t be more excited! This past Saturday Ryan met the Putney Student Travel group at JFK Airport (pictured) to deliver 1,026 pens ahead of their journey through the most impoverished areas of Rwanda. There, they’ll be visiting the same hospitals, schools, and shelters that first inspired Ryan to launch the Pens To People project 6 years ago. Truly a historic moment for this initiative.
Big thanks to all who donated! This contribution brings our total pens donated to date …

A Donation 6 Years in the Making

Six summers ago Ryan traveled to Rwanda on an inaugural mission organized by Putney Student Travel. Today, Pens to People has the opportunity to donate pens to the same Rwandan teachers and schoolchildren who convinced him to start this project with their heartfelt accounts of being denied an education simply because they couldn’t afford the supplies required. The Putney Rwanda program is still going strong since that inaugural mission in 2008, and this year the group has agreed to accept as many pens as they can carry and hand deliver …

Summer Donation 2013

Another record-breaking donation year! Due to the generosity of complete strangers from all over the U.S. who saw this website by chance and made the commitment to disadvantaged schoolchildren who they may never meet, this year we were able to raise and donate a total of 8,667 pens!
Over the past several months, Pens To People has been working with Barbara Laing at the Mnyakongo School Project to ensure that this donation makes a real impact in the lives of the most at-risk schoolchildren in Sub-Saharan Africa. That impact was finally …

Mt. View School Pen Drive

Between June 10th and June 14th students at Mountain View Middle School in Mendham, NJ raised 667 pens for Pens To People! We would like to thank students Elise Sprouls and Natalie Gurnik as well as teachers Mrs. Porter and Mrs. Dean for organizing the pen-raiser. These pens will make such an important difference in the education of the most needy children in Sub-Saharan Africa. Stay posted for the annual summer donation!
